Research interest

  • My main research interest is the study of microevolutionary processes in the apomictic genus Taraxacum. I am studying population genetics of asexual dandelions and the impacts of asexuality on population structure of fully asexual and mixed sexual-asexual populations. I am studying the origin of genetic variability and mechanisms of generation of this variability in asexual lineages, possibility of hybridization among sexual and asexual species. I am also interested in the origin of apomixis and the accumulation of deleterious mutations in asexually reproducing species (theory of Muller´s ratchet).
  • Besides apomixis I focuse on population genetics of endangered species, biosystematics of the genus Lophophora, phylogeography, tropical botany, and plant biosystematics.
